Lake County became center stage for lighting the South Dakota prairie when the newly created East River Electric located its headquarters in Madison in 1950. A brief history of rural electrification in rural South Dakota, and East River's role then and now, will be presented by Jeff Nelson, retired East River General Manager. A new book by journalist Mary Askren was commissioned by East River to chronicle its 75th Anniversary and will be available.
